France continue their Group C campaign today against South American hopefuls Peru in Ekaterinburg.

Les Bleus relied on a late own goal as they scraped to an unconvincing 2-1 win over Australia on Saturday and will struggle to beat Peru if they replicate their opening performance.

Peru, playing at a World Cup for the first time since 1982, suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Denmark in their opening match and need to pick up a result to extend their stay in Russia.

FRANCE 1-0 PERU – MBAPPE (34)

France XI: Lloris, Pavard, Varane, Umtiti, Lucas, Pogba, Kante, Mbappe-Lottin, Griezmann, Matuidi, Giroud.

Peru XI: Gallese, Advincula, Ramos, Rodriguez, Trauco, Aquino, Yotun, Carrillo, Cueva, Flores, Guerrero.

FRANCE 1-0 PERU

52: Woodwork! Peru are inches from drawing level as Pedro Aquino leathers Farfan’s cutback off the outside of the post.

51: I’ve no medical experience but I’m not sure Samuel Umtiti should bother continuing with a dodgy hamstring. Dr Anderson, at your service…

48: Ouch! Samuel Umtiti collides with Farfan in the air and the Barcelona man has come off worse. He’s grabbing his hamstring but wants to try and run it off.

45: Double change for Peru if I’m not mistaken. Farfan and Santamaria replace Rodriguez and Yotun. We’re back underway. France are 45 minutes away from a place in the last 16.

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Aaron: Paul Pogba is absolutely ripping this Peru team to shreds. Constantly playing balls that are just slicing through their defence.

Roshimon: Congratulations Kylian Mbappe for becoming the youngest ever scorer in the World Cup for your country.

Tom: Only Didier Deschamps could have players like Lemar, Dembele, Thauvin, Martial and Coman to pick from and still end up with Blaise Matuidi on the left wing.

FRANCE 1-0 PERU

HT: Kylian Mbappe’s strike separates these sides at the break. Peru are still in with a shout, but they’ll be rueing Paolo Guerrero’s missed opportunity. He really should have scored.

France grew in confidence and I suspect they will fancy a few more goals with Peru looking spent.

45: Peru are tiring and that’s giving France plenty of time on the ball. They just need to make half-time with a one-goal deficit.

43: Save! Griezmann slips Hernandez through but Gallese palms it away. Olivier Giroud chests the rebound back to Hernandez but this time his first-time strike flashes wide.

41: You’ve got to give it to Olivier Giroud. He just makes this France side tick. His absence was notable against Australia and it’s no coincidence they scored 11 minutes after his introduction.

38: Nearly a second. Griezmann turns on his jet engines and powers away down the right. His cutback looks destined to reach Mbappe but Gallese reads the danger.

36: Kylian Mbappe (19 years and 6 months) is the youngest France player ever to score in a major tournament (World Cup and EURO).

FRANCE 1-0 PERU – MBAPPE

34: Kylian Mbappe becomes the youngest goalscorer at a World Cup for France, and I don’t think he’ll ever have a more straightforward finish.

Olivier Giroud’s effort takes a wicked deflection and loops over Peru goalkeeper Gallese for PSG’s Mbappe to convert into an empty net.

33: That’s the first clean-cut opportunity of the game, and Peru captain Paolo Guerrero has wasted it. Flores pokes him through with only Hugo Lloris to beat but it’s tamely struck at the Tottenham goalkeeper.

30: We’ve reached the half-hour mark and Peru will be fairly happy with things. They’ve limited France to a couple of half-chances and have marked Kylian Mbappe out of the game.

28: Ahhhhh, he just couldn’t resist. Flores, who’s already struck from the halfway line, decides to power another long-ranger and gets it horribly wrong.

25: Peru will want to attack France’s left flank. Matuidi is already on a booking and full-back Lucas Hernandez only has six caps for the national side.

22: Chance! Peru have a free-kick on the left and that’s a cue for every Vuvuzela on planet earth to be blown. False alarm, there’s a foul in the area on Umtiti and the chance is gone.

19: Blaise Matuidi collects the first booking of the afternoon when clawing back Advincula.

18: Peru are living very dangerously indeed. First Mbappe hits the deck under pressure and screams at the assistant for a penalty before Griezmann fires straight at Gallese.

16: Everyone’s expecting the net to ripple as Varane leaves his marker behind and nods a corner towards goal. Peru breathe a sigh of relief as the Real Madrid star’s guides it wide.

13: Welcome to the party, Paul. Pogba drives forward and strikes low to force a decent save from Peru goalkeeper Gallese.

11: Olivier Giroud slips Antoine Griezmann in down the right but having cut inside he skews his effort wide. Most uncharacteristic.

8: I see quite a few people praising the two glorious kits on show today. Football is merely a sideshow apparently.

Flores looks for the David Beckham from inside his own half but Lloris quickly retreats and the effort flies over the crossbar. Quite a ballsy move.

FRANCE 0-0 PERU

5: How long before a GIF of Carrillo rinsing Pogba finds its way onto Twitter. The Peru midfielder simply wanted it more and turned Manchester United’s £89million signings.

The French are going to need to show the stomach for a fight today because the South American’s have started brightly.

3: We’re all expecting a big performance from France today. They were so dismal against Australia that someone wanted to swap their sweepstake pick with me. I got Senegal…

1: And we’re off! Peru need a result otherwise they will be eliminated from the World Cup. I’m expecting blood…

THEY ARRIVE…

15:54: It’s just a sea of red inside the stadium. Might be the quietest rendition of La Marseillaise I’ve ever heard. Sorry, lads.

The Peru national anthem is nice and jaunty with a few of the players virtually in tears.

MY WORD…

15:50: Goodness me, look at the number of Peru supporters! They are everywhere! You’d have to have a heart of stone not to want them to get something from this game.

And can I tell you a secret? I think they will get a result today. I’ll predict a 1-1 draw.

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Jonny: Ahead of Peru’s match against France, a reminder that Duncan Ferguson once tried to buy Nolberto Solano a live llama as a Secret Santa gift.

Mark: Peru v France might not drag you to your TV sets, but just watch it to see the number of Peruvians in Ekaterinburg. Staggering backing. Almost everyone in white-red shirts.

Ben: If Peru beat France, Group C will be pretty spicy! I don’t expect them to, but you never know with how things are going!

£914,850,000 vs £31,011,000

15:40: Let’s talk money. And don’t let the fact that I have around £8.12 in savings concern you.

Did you know that that the French 2018 World Cup team is the most expensively assembled squad heading to Russia.

It’s valued at an eye-watering £914.9million. Of course that includes Kylian Mbappe, who at £108million represents a 17% share of the total squad value.

Now, let’s compare that with Peru, whose squad is worth £31million. I suppose that’s the equivalent of Mbappe’s left leg.

Peru’s most valuable player is Andre Carillo, who is valued at £5.4million and represents a 17% share of the total squad value.

I haven’t done the maths. I left that to the boffins down at . My time is far too valuable for that…

THE 100 CLUB

15:30: I believe congratulations are in order because Hugo Lloris wins his 100th France cap today.

But will he pause to milk the applause? Nope, he has demanded that France improve after their unconvincing 2-1 win over Australia.

“Tomorrow is going to be a difficult match; if we do not raise our quality level, we are going to have some difficulties,” Lloris said. “Peru are a quality team, a difficult team to beat. We know that the players are committed to playing for their country.”

PERU RUN THIS TOWN!

15:26: Watch out lads, the Peruvians are about and they outnumber French supporters by more than seven to one!

A spokeswoman for the Yekaterinburg administration said fans had been arriving in Yekaterinburg throughout the day and authorities were expecting in total around 15,000 from Peru and 2,000 from France.

That compared with just over 6,500 Uruguayans and some 5,000 Egyptians for the first game in the city last week.

Many Peruvians had arrived without tickets and have packed the fan zone, located away from the stadium in a city park, she said.

Appearing in the World Cup finals for the first time in 36 years, Peru has drawn phenomenal support despite its population of just 31 million and distance from the host country.

FIFA said before the tournament that 43,583 tickets had been sold to Peru fans, making them the seventh largest contingent from any country.

ELSEWHERE…

15:22: Christian Eriksen’s superb opener was cancelled out by Mile Jedinak’s controversial penalty as Denmark and Australia drew 1-1 at the World Cup to ensure Group C would go down to the final round of matches.

A win for France would see them advance to the last 16 with Denmark to play in the final round of fixtures. Meanwhile Peru need a result otherwise it’s chips.

TEAM NEWS – FRANCE

15:20: Didier Deschamps, who I can’t quite believe is only 49, makes two changes from France’s opener with Australia.

Corentin Tolisso and Osumane Dembele have dropped to the bench with Blaise Matuidi and Olivier Giroud taking the places.

I’m not 100% sure what that’ll do to their formation, but the official France graphic has Matuidi playing on the left flank. Strange.

TEAM NEWS – PERU

15:15: The headline news is that Peru captain Paolo Guerrero starts today having played a cameo role in their opening defeat to Denmark.

Quite surprisingly Jefferson Farfan and Renato Tapia drop o the bench with Monterrey star Pedro Aquino taking his place.

WELCOME

15:00: Hello everyone, welcome to our LIVE coverage of the World Cup.

Another day, another triple-header of terrific fixtures. We really are being spoiled, right?

I’ll stop the sentimental stuff and get stuck into the action as France go head-to-head with everyone’s adopted team, Peru.

The South American side won a lot of support for their display against Denmark last week, and although they came away with nothing, there’s quiet whispers of an upset today.

We’re about to find out if Germany will get some company in the ‘losing favourites’  enclosure. Time for the team news and line-ups.
