All That Remains confirmed Oli Herbert had died in a touching Instagram post in which they paid tribute to the late musician.
“We were devastated to learnt that Oli Herbert, our friend, guilt player, and founding member of All That Remains, has passed away,” the band told their 82,000 Instagram followers.
“Old was an incredibly talent guitarist and song writer who defined Rock and Metal from the Northeast.
“His impact on the genres and our lives will continue indefinitely,” the statement continued.
The cause of death has not yet been reported, and the band said: “No other details are available at this time.
“The band and family request that you please respect their privacy and remember Oli by celebrating the great music he made.”
Oli’s wife Beth also spoke out on his tragic death, saying he had died “suddenly”.
Writing on the star’s Facebook page, she said: “Hello everyone this is Beth, Oli’s widow.
“Thank you all for the kind thoughts and words. I don’t want to go into what happened until we have a complete picture, but as soon as we do there will be a statement from the family on this page.
“In the meantime, please respect our privacy as there are still relatives being informed of Oli’s passing. Thank you.”
In a second post, she said a formal statement would be released “within the next few days”.
Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for Oli asking for comment.
Oli first started playing guitar at the age of 14 and founded the Massachusetts-based group back in 1998.
He has featured on all nine of All That Remains’ albums to date and was one of two remaining original members of the band alongside vocalist Phil Labonte.
Stars of the rock and metal world have taken to social media to pay tribute to Oli following the news of his death.
Arch Enemy and Spiritual Beggars star Michael Amott said: “Really shocked to learn of Oli Herbert passing away.
AE and ATF toured together years ago and Oli always used to come out and see us play when we came through his area. The nicest guy,” he continued. “The metal community’s lost another great musician way too early.”
“The world has lost one of the sweetest and most talented musicians I have ever known,” Brian Fair added. “Ollie Herbert of All That Remains was always so kind and friendly every time you saw him and a literal wizard on the guitar.
“Such devastating news and such a sad and tragic loss.”
All That Remains are currently scheduled to play six gigs in the UK in December as part of their European tour.
