Bethenny Frankel’s boyfriend Dennis Shields died of a suspected overdose, the New York Post reported.
Dennis made numerous appearances on the reality series and Bethenny spoke about her relationship with him on the show in scenes aired earlier this week.
Speaking to her co-star Dorinda Medley about her relationship with John Mahdessian, the mother-of-one, 47, brought up her on-off romance with Dennis.
“You’re just lucky John’s never going anywhere,” she said. “I didn’t say it to Dennis, but in my own mind I said, ’90 days. I’m not saying a word to Dennis for 90 days.’
“It’s a really hard thing to realise that someone you love just doesn’t mean they’re the right person, and I wish he was.”
Opening up about her huge new pad, Bethenny also said: “I may live here forever alone, and I’m okay with that.”
The RHONY star previously documented her marriage to Jason Hoppy and the birth of their daughter on the show.
The couple split in 2012, two years after they tied the knot, and their divorce was finalised in 2016.
She and Dennis have preferred to avoid labels for their on-off relationship and she recently spoke out about her status during an interview with Steve Harvey in May.
Without naming Dennis, she said: “I’ve been with someone on and off for years.
“It’s like a partnership where if we’re not being teammates and it’s not working and one man is down, then the other man is down.
“We’re trying to really kind of be good parents and good teammates and I think relationships oddly are — and this sounds cold — but a bit like business,” she added.
After Bethenny previously confirmed she was single in January, a source told PEOPLE: “Bethenny and her daughter Bryn love Dennis and his family and they have been a support system during her negative divorce and a positive influence in Bryn’s life.”
Following the news of Dennis’ death, his estranged wife Jill SChwartzberg Shields told E! News: “Dennis’ family is devastated by this terrible news.
“He was a loving father and friend. We ask that the media respect out privacy during this time of loss.”
According to the New York Post, Dennis asked his assistant to administer Narcan around 9am this morning, reportedly believing he was overdosing on prescription pills.
Narcan is used to block the effects of opioids and reverse overdoses.
Dennis is said to have lost consciousness before the medication and was pronounced dead “a short time later”.
A spokesperson for the New York Police Department told PEOPLE that a 51-year-old man was pronounced dead on the scene at Shields’ Trump Tower address.
They did not share the individual’s name.
“Preliminarily, we are investigating it as a possible overdose,” the spokesperson told the publication.
